BookTrust Annual Lecture
Every year, BookTrust invites a noted figure from the world of children's books to share their thoughts on the industry at a special event.
An audience of publishers, authors, illustrators and other influencers is invited to enjoy the Lecture, which first took place in 2016.
Subjects covered so far include the importance of reading for pleasure, imagination and creativity, and the long-lasting impact of childhood experiences.
BookTrust Annual Lecture 2019: Paul Howard-Jones
Leading educational neuroscientist and Channel 4's Secret Life of Five Year Olds expert Paul Howard-Jones gave the 2019 BookTrust Annual Lecture at a special event at the Natural History Museum London in November.
During his talk, Paul discussed the evolution of the literate brain and the role books play in the development of children's growing intellect. He also offered unique insights into the vital role of reading as a catalyst for civilisation, for wellbeing and adult success.
This year's Annual Lecture was also a celebratory event to present BookTrust's Storytime Prize, celebrating the best book to share with young children. Congratulations to Emily Gravett, who became the first ever winner of the award with her book Cyril and Pat.
Guests at the lecture included celebrated authors and illustrators such as Philip Ardagh, Cerrie Burnell, Patrice Lawrence and Klaus Flugge, as well as regional local authority representatives and leading figures in the publishing industry.
