The Kate Greenaway Medal is one of the top prizes in publishing, celebrating the very best in children's book illustration - take a look for yourself in our picture gallery.
This is an exciting year for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal.
Not only is it the 60th anniversary year of the UK's oldest and most prestigious book award - along with its sister Carnegie prize - but Children's Laureate Chris Riddell is on the shortlist again for A Great Big Cuddle.
This means he could win the Kate Greenaway Medal for a record-breaking fourth time. Yes: FOURTH.
All worthy winners
But there are plenty of other brilliant choices among the shortlist, too. In fact, we're only glad that we don't have to make the final decision!
The illustrators vying for the prize are (alphabetically by illustrator surname):
- Wild Animals of the North illustrated and written by Dieter Braun (Flying Eye Books).
- TIDY illustrated and written by Emily Gravett (Two Hoots)
- The Wolves of Currumpaw illustrated and written by William Grill (Flying Eye Books)
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone illustrated by Jim Kay, written by J.K. Rowling (Bloomsbury)
- A Great Big Cuddle illustrated by Chris Riddell and written by Michael Rosen (Walker Books)
- The Journey illustrated and written by Francesca Sanna (Flying Eye Books)
- The Marvels illustrated and written by Brian Selznick (Scholastic)
- There is a Tribe of Kids illustrated and written by Lane Smith (Two Hoots)
Previous winners include Quentin Blake and our Lifetime Achievement Award winners Shirley Hughes and Raymond Briggs.
