Published on: 16 Mehefin 2016 Author: Sophie Offord

The new Klaus Flugge Prize celebrates the most exciting new illustrators in picture books - and the shortlist does not disappoint.

Serengeti lions, ice-age giants and a girl with a parrot on her head. These are just some of the topics drawn in the wonderful picture books picked for the first-ever Klaus Flugge prize.

The six original books were chosen by judges Chris Riddell  (Children's Laureate) and Tony Ross, both known for being handy with a doodle themselves. On their shortlist is:

  • Lili by Wen Dee Tan (Fat Fox)
  • Counting Lions by Stephen Walton, written by Katie Cotton (Frances Lincoln Children's Books)

The winner will be announced in September 2016. In the meantime, browse through the amazing illustrations below.
