Nina Peanut is Amazing

Publisher: Scholastic

Nina Peanut makes “amazing and non-stupid” videos. Her 'How to Peel a Banana' clip managed to get two likes and her 'This Potato has a Face' clip even got a comment (admittedly from her best mate Brian).

Despite her low viewing figures, Nina is confident in her creative genius and unique comedic style. But when an embarrassing video of her cat goes viral, she finds herself negotiating the intricacies of online fame, jealousy, rivalry and friendship – all while struggling to protect her creative integrity.

Sarah Bowie’s graphic novel is bursting with creativity and humour. You cannot help being whisked along by Nina Peanut’s infectious energy and readers will love the quirkiness that she brings to the story. The illustrations are full of comic details and hilarious captions and are sure to keep children engaged throughout.

As well as its humour, this book does also touch upon some important issues for its target readership. The difficulties of social media, popularity and cyberbullying are brought up and addressed in a positive and light way.

These themes will resonate with children who are increasingly confident using social technologies, especially as they are presented in a child-centred and unpretentious way.

Mae Nina Peanut yn postio fideos “anhygoel sydd ddim yn ddwl”. Er gwaethaf ei ffigurau gwylio isel, mae'n hyderus yn ei hathrylith greadigol a'i harddull gomedïaidd unigryw. Ond pan fo fideo o’i chath sy'n ddigon o godi cywilydd yn mynd yn feirol, mae'n canfod ei hun yn llywio cymhlethdodau enwogrwydd, cenfigen, cystadleuaeth a chyfeillgarwch ar-lein.

Mae nofel luniau Sarah Bowie yn llawn creadigrwydd, hiwmor ac egni heintus. Mae’r darluniadau lliw yn llawn manylion doniol a byddant yn siŵr o gadw sylw plant drwy'r stori. Rhoddir sylw i anawsterau cyfryngau cymdeithasol, poblogrwydd a seiberfwlio mewn ffordd gadarnhaol ac ysgafn.
