Is Dot in the House?
Publisher: Macmillan Children’s Books
This is a beautiful board book for very little ones. It’s a hide and seek story as we search for Dot, the cute little kitty.
Will we find her in the tree? No, that’s Bee. Will we find her in the pram? No, that’s Sam. The search is by way of fun and very sturdy sliders on each page to reveal who is there - there are eight in total. And we eventually find Dot at the very end.
There are lots of things to look at, point at and talk about on each page – flowers, mushrooms, caterpillars and so on – and it’s a lovely bright, joyful world. The pages are thick and it seems pretty unbreakable and robust. It’s a classic board book narrative but feels very fresh and cute with, SPOILER ALERT, a surprise mirror on the very last page, putting baby into the story. Hooray!
Camilla Reid is an expert author of baby books, and Carly Gledhill’s sweet and bright illustrations are the perfect complement. Enjoyable for the eye, the ear and for little hands!
