What to Read After... David Walliams 17/02/25
This Is Me!
Publisher: Scholastic
'Each one of us is different, just like pebbles at the seaside,' George tells us.
We all have our individual likes and dislikes, enjoy different activities and have the ability to shine in our own ways. We each have a unique set of ingredients that make us – well, us.
In George's case, one of the many ingredients that make up his unique recipe is that he happens to have Down Syndrome. Here he invites us to have fun exploring the world, working out what makes us 'glow' and giving everything a go.
Many children will recognise the star of this book as CBeebies presenter George Webster, transformed into a delightful picture book character by illustrator Tim Budgen. Inspired by a poem, and joining forces with co-author Claire Taylor, this book shares George's wisdom and zest for life in a celebration of diversity, friendship and being yourself.
Through vibrant illustrations and rhyming text, George introduces us to his family, hobbies and interests. We also meet lots of his friends and observe the wide variety of ways in which people can communicate, play, get around and have fun. The inclusive cast of characters are even based on George's real friends.
This is a book about finding your glow – and, with its gold starry cover and beaming faces, Webster's infectious enthusiasm radiates through every page.
Mae gan bob un ohonon ni ein hoff bethau a'n cas bethau, a'r gallu i serennu yn ein ffyrdd arbennig ein hunain. Mae gan bawb gasgliad o gynhwysion unigryw sy'n ein gwneud ni yn ni.
Yn achos George, un o'r cynhwysion niferus sy'n cyfrannu at ei rysáit unigryw ef ydy ei fod yn digwydd bod â Syndrom Down.
Bydd llawer o blant yn adnabod seren y llyfr fel George Webster cyflwynydd CBeebies, wedi'i drawsnewid yn gymeriad llyfr lluniau gan y darlunydd Tim Budgen. Wedi'i ysbrydoli gan gerdd, ac yn ymuno i gydweithio â'r awdures Claire Taylor, mae'r llyfr hwn yn rhannu doethineb George a'i awch am fywyd mewn dathliad o amrywiaeth, cyfeillgarwch a bod yn chi'ch hun.
