This is How We Do It
Publisher: Chronicle Books
Following the daily lives of seven kids from around the world, This is How We Do It explores the similarities and differences in childhoods in Italy, Japan, Iran, India, Peru, Uganda, and Russia.
Covering ‘a day in the life’ of the children, each page shows an everyday aspect of the seven kids lives, such as "This is who I live with" and "This is how I go to school". In Uganda, Daphine has matoke for breakfast; in Peru, Ribaldo has fried rice for his breakfast. Some of the children walk to school, while some of them are driven; all their desks look quite similar to one another, but they each write using different alphabets – Kei from Japan uses kanji characters to write in Japanese, while Ananya from India writes in Hindi, using the Devanagari alphabet.
Offering a peek into the lives of different children around the world, this fascinating illustrated nonfiction book enables readers to explore the similarities and differences between others and themselves, consider different cultures, and think about their own place in the world. Matt Lamothe's gentle yet detailed illustrations combine with the text to successfully show that, despite differences in culture and experience, there is a common theme of unity in our lives.
