5 fantastic farmyard books 14/03/25
There Are Birds Everywhere
Publisher: Big Picture Press
Birds are amazing. There are more than 10,000 species of bird around the world, and a form of flying dinosaur existed around 150 million years ago.
Birds can live in deserts, mountains, forests and on or near water. Most can fly, some can swim – and all are impressive in their own way. This book is packed with bite-sized information on all aspects of birds, and it's a visual feast.
Britta Teckentrup brings these birds to glorious life with her vibrantly coloured yet softly textured artwork. Every page has small sections of text alongside the pictures, and the design is clear and uncluttered. Diagrams are easy to understand, and differently coloured panels point the reader to extra information. On many spreads there is a suggestion of something to spot, like five mice hiding, or a harrier in its nest.
With information on bird behaviour, habitats, flying patterns and diet, along with how birds have inspired humans over the years, this slim, large format book contains an impressive number of facts.
This is a delight for a young bird lover, but any primary-aged reader would find lots to interest them among these inviting pages. There are other books in the series, too, on Fish, Bugs, Reptiles and Mammals – all with beautiful illustrations by Britta Teckentrup.
