The Tin Snail

Publisher: Jonathan Cape

Angelo's father designs luxury cars for rich people in the Paris of the 1930's. Angelo loves cars and gives his father ideas for new designs.

After a disastrous Paris Motor Show they both take a break in a country village and have the idea to design a car for ordinary people. Their new car will be for farmers who need to transport wine, hens and eggs to market across muddy fields and down rough country roads.

But France is invaded by Germany and Angelo, his father and the villagers must keep this revolutionary new car secret from their enemies.

Loosely based on the story of the development of the 2CV, the story also touches on parental and romantic relationships.
