The Notwitches

Eleven-year-old Melanda Notwitch lives with her three awful aunts – Aunt Claggy, Aunt Rear Admiral Barbara Notwitch and Aunt Thumb – who make her life an absolute misery. They force her to look after them, cooking, cleaning and undertaking all manner of unpleasant tasks.  

Meanwhile, young witch Mitch and her talking cat Rolo are attempting to recruit members for their witch club. When they approach Melanda, she wonders if she can find a magical solution to her aunt problem. Fortuitously, Mitch finds a spell entitled How to Defeat Three Evil Aunts, so the new friends set off in search of the key ingredient: a mermaid's scale. On her quest to take control of her own destiny, Melanda encounters a crew of dancing, vegan bikers, known as the Hairy Skulls, a bunch of gloomy goblins and an insomniac rock monster; she is also delighted to discover friendship, kindness and joy. 

Hugely entertaining, this outlandish, magical adventure features a host of larger-than-life characters, from dastardly villains to unlikely heroes. Each chapter is enhanced by superb black-and-white illustrations, which are full of humour and personality.
