Full of mystery and confusion, packed with twists and turns that no reader can see coming, this is a great read! Cecily and May discover 'Snow Castle' whilst in the countryside during World War 2. There they find two brothers, who appear randomly and wear weird clothes. Some thing isn't right about them. Meanwhile, their Uncle tells them about a Duke, who murdered his two nephews...This book is strange and confusing, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical books or enjoys ...

'The girl's eyes were not the insipid blue of morning but the cobalt blue of tropical birds.' This moving tale, 'The Children of the King', written by Sonya Hartnett is about two children called Cecily and May uncovering the secrets of a forgotten castle. As an evacuee from London, May, joins a family, also from London, moving to the country. A couple of disagreements and a whole new story really adds to the tale. I've really enjoyed 'Children of the King' because I love war books as it fe...

I really enjoyed this book. It lasted me a good while, and was enjoyable all the way. It is very interesting and entertaining. The one thing is that i wish the end was slightly more fulfilling, but apart from that it was a great book.

Hi. Three evacuees meet two strange boys in the ruins of a castle. Two evacuees go to their uncles with their mum and expected a fun time but it turned out to be an adventure. This book is all right. Its well written but its not the book for me because World war two books aren't for me. I recommend the book to twelve+ because it gets complicated.

A brother and 2 sisters have been sent to the countryside to keep safe from the War in London. They meet a pair of boys hiding in a old castle. It was a great book although a few minor flaws as I got got a bit confused as I was reading it. However a person slightly older would enjoy the book more. I would recommend this book to people who like reading about the war and about ghosts.

The Children of the King By Sonya Hartnett In The Children of the King there is Heloise (Mum), Humphrey (Dad) Cecily and Jeremy Lockwood, evacuee May Bright and two boys. Cecily is twelve and lives in London but has been evacuated to Heron Hall with her brother and her Mum. Jeremy is fourteen. Their Dad had to be left behind to fight in the war. It is set during the Second World War after France had fallen. They were evacuated to Heron Hall where their Uncle lived, far away from the war. O...

I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars. The one thing I enjoyed was the side story of the duke, the king and their brother Clarence. But I had many problems with it- the tale of an evacuee taken in by a rich family which was excitement at first but it all faded away when you came to the middle of the book. All was not lost as dullness was overcome by the tale of the king. I think the worst moment was when the evacuees host family consisting of Jeremey and Cecily with mother Heloise was th...

To much information on stuff you didn't need to know and the plot was not followed. The start was brilliant but then it went down hill. I think its made for people over 11.

I really enjoyed this book as it is about the war and I find that very interesting. My favourite part of the story is the part when they have to be evacuated and they wait and meet the other evacuee that they then take with them to the hall. I chose this book because I liked the blurb when I read it when it came to choosing our books.

I really enjoyed this book! It made you feel like you were part of world war two. I found it a fun read as it was different to what I would normally read. I would recommend this book to a friend or family member as it really puts you in the shoes of the characters.

The blurb said ‘The castle belongs in the past, but its story will take these kids on an extraordinary adventure’. I love adventure stories so it was this quote that made me choose the book . From the book I learnt about exactly how hard it is to be an evacuee and about the worries that children had for their parents and worries that parents had for their children. If you like books about the war and adventure stories then this is the book for you.

I really liked this book because it had a sort of mystery and I really liked the start where Cecily Jeremy are playing hide and seek. It seems like some one is chasing them and trying to take them away but no one is. It was just their dad trying to find them in a game of hide and seek. But my favourite chapter was a secret in the castle. I found it to be the most exciting and also mysterious with a bit of creepiness in it and that's why I liked The Children Of The King.

I really didn't like the book because on the first couple of chapters were a bit off and on. In the the first chapter it was kind of scary because someone broke into the house and Cecily was sleeping and then she woke up and the person was coming towards her brothers room.

The children of the king is about a two children who discover mystery and excitement while a war (world war 2) is going on. I would definitely recommend this book because it is brilliant and you could really relate to it although, if you want a book that has drama and thrillers, i would not recommend this one as it is a calm and relaxing. I will be totally honest with the viewers. This book does not have interesting events at the beginning and can be boring when reading it but overall it i...

This is an amazing book, Sonya Hartnett’s writing style is beautiful. The characters that Sonya Hartnett has created are entirely believable. The construct of setting a story during wartime allows the author to explore how characters cope with dreadful and challenging events. This book is about World War II the two Lockwood children, twelve year old Cecily and her older brother Jeremy, are dispatched, together with their socialite mother, to stay with family in the north to keep them s...

I think that the children of the kind is the perfect read for people interested in world war 1 or books, like the Narnia series by c.s Lewis. This book is definitely a page turner leaving you to conjure up the images of the adventures of the three children Cecily, Jeremy and their new evacuee sister May. i enjoyed it and would be delighted if you read it !

The reason why i chose this book is because it reminded me of 'the railway children' and 'the lion the witch and the wardrobe' because it has a bunch of children going away because of war as evacuee. From the title i inferred that the children would have been given to a king and been made his children because they were sent to his house as young evacuees. summary of what I've read so far: The Lockwood children are made to escape the London blitz. they go to Heron hall which is the house of...

The reason I chose this book is because I thought the plot was nice and interesting. I found this book interesting because there is a plot twist that I was not expecting. I would recommend this book to someone who likes reading about war because most stories end in the same way but from reading six chapters, I feel like it isn’t going to end in the way I expect. This book is about a girl who is living in the time of war and her family and have to evacuate but her dad has to stay. The...

I think this book is intriguing because its about a family who are being part of the war in London and they have to try their best to be safe even though its hard. So far the theme of the book is calm and its set in a house in London where there is a war. I think this is a good book because it has a lot of descriptive writing to keep you reading, it also passes a message saying that even though was isn't happening here at this moment that doesn't mean its not happening. I would recommend t...

The children of the king is a adventurous and fascinating book and will suit people who like adventure stories. There are three main characters; Cecily, Jeremy and May. The three of them have normal lives but suddenly, they have to evacuate to the countryside. If you like adventure books and like to know about how people evacuate and how they feel, then I recommend this book. Enjoy reading!

I thought this book was really interesting because it educates you on the olden days and what it was like to live during a war for children. It's also has a really good story line and it is packed full of adventure.I'd recommend this book to children(and adults) who like adventure books(and also people who like books about the history of London).

The story starts with a creepy and scary start.Where a man with a gas mask looks for two children in a house, the lights are off and... The main thing this is about is war and evacuation, to keep the children safe but kind of with a little twist. I think the book is good/okay; it can be slightly touching but sometimes it's just, kind of lack of creativity(I know it's about war but still...).(It gets kind of boring, basically.) I would recommend it to anyone who likes history,so WW1/2. Or ju...

I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys reading different genres. This book is about a family called the Lockwood's. the Lockwood's are a very wealthy family and are able to afford the riches in life, but once the war strikes, it comes to a matter of life and death. Parts of the book are intriguing and some parts were really sad. I have enjoyed reading this book.

i would like to recommend this book to you as you look like the type of teacher that would be into cliffhangers and suspense, when your not educating students. This story is about two students who have had to run away from their home as there is war happening in their area of life. They have to leave a few things and people behind but that is all i am gonna say so if you would like to find out more then READ THE BOOK!!!!!

A wonderful atmospheric story set in World War Two. Cecily, Jeremy, and May are coping in their own way with being evacuated to the countryside. When they discover two boys in a creepy ruined castle, they assume they too are evacuees. It is only when their Uncle tells them an increasingly tantalising story about the ruins that the truth is finally revealed.

I loved how a true story within the main story unfolds as tensions between the characters develop and the climax of both stories will get you diving into the history books to find out more about these enigmatic children of the King. I was totally gripped and having read the book I immediately read it again!
