Soonchild

Sixteen-Face John lives in the far north. He is a shaman who has neglected his skills and duties. His wife, No Problem, is pregnant with 'Soonchild'. But Soonchild won't come out of the womb until she is enticed by the wonderful World Songs.

John must remember his shamanic gifts and make a mystical journey to find the songs and bring them back into the world. He seeks help from the spirits of animals and ancestors; faces fears, demons and death; and defeats them all in order to save the world.

This unusual tale for both adults and children is imaginative, magical and readable. Stark, brooding black and white illustrations by Alexis Deacon, complement the northern landscape and the dreamworld of the shamans.
