5 fantastic farmyard books 14/03/25
Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly
Publisher: Penguin
This is an imaginative and superbly illustrated book from two very well-known names in children’s literature. We are introduced to a young Nick and Sue, who have very different tastes: Nick likes red apples, Sue prefers green pears; Nick likes orange hair, but Sue likes purple hair.
We learn at the end of the book that, despite their differences, Sue likes Nick and Nick likes Sue. Sharratt and Heap’s illustrations perfectly complement each other with a bold and vibrant use of colour, but there are noticeable and interesting differences between their artwork.
The quirky text accompanying the illustrations gently teaches children about the importance of friendship.
