Growing up in Guernsey in the 1990s, timid, introspective Flo struggles to deal with her dysfunctional family life and bullying 'best friend' Sally - until rebellious extrovert Renee unexpectedly befriends her. Although the two girls are very different, they soon develop an intense friendship, fuelled by their shared loneliness, experiences of bereavement and the challenging situations that face them at home.

Dawn O'Porter's first young adult novel is a skilful blend of darkness and light, told in a frank and distinctive voice. Taking an unflinching look at the realities of adolescence, and incorporating some challenging themes as well as sexual content, O'Porter writes convincingly from the point of view of her teenage characters.
