Mars Evacuees
Publisher: Farshore
'The fact that someone had decided I'd be safer on Mars, where you could still only SORT OF breathe the air and SORT OF not get sunburned to death, was a sign that the war with the aliens was not going fantastically well.'
In a future world in which aliens have taken over Earth and the polar ice is covering the planet, 12-year-old Alice Dare is being evacuated to Mars by the Emergency Earth Coalition to join the youth defense force. She's not sure what to expect from her new life - but the challenges of being taught by robots and forced to learn to fly a spaceship pale into insignificance when all of the adults on the base mysteriously disappear.
This engaging story is the first in a fun new sci-fi adventure series that is perfect for 9-12 year-old readers, and is sure to be enjoyed by both boys and girls. Sophia McDougall writes with freshness, imagination and wit and there's a likeable cast of resourceful young characters, as well as enough action and wacky goings-on to keep young readers eagerly turning the pages.
