Big Red Dragon: Play Rhymes Through the Year

Publisher: Otter-Barry Books

This collection of original rhymes is a useful tool for anyone wanting to make storytime more interactive and fun.

There are 15 rhymes on different subjects – for instance, dinosaurs, pets, vehicles – and some seasonal events, such as Easter, Halloween, Diwali and Christmas.

On the same page as each short rhyme are suggestions for actions to perform at the same time. These actions are very simple, such as stretching your arms above your head or cupping your hands to indicate something is in them. Any children listening can easily do the same actions – in fact, they should be encouraged to do so! Particularly the stomping like a dinosaur, which is always very popular

The soft illustrations beautifully complement the gentle actions and rhymes. (The stomping is as raucous as it gets!) This would be lovely to share with a baby, as well as a toddler or older child, as the repetition and the rhyme encourage language acquisition.

Adding actions to this makes the whole experience more memorable and enjoyable, for the child, but also the adult. This book makes storytime easy!
